Fred Hickman has practiced banking, real estate, commercial and creditors’ remedies litigation since 1986 in California.  Apart from 5 ½ years with the FDIC as a litigator, his career has been spent representing business entities and financial institutions.

            His practice includes a major emphasis on state and federal banking and lending law.  The banking practice includes a focus on, bank deposits and collections, secured transactions, funds transfers (UCC Articles 3, 4, 9 and 11).  The lending litigation practice includes defense of lending practices and loan transactions, lender liability suits, and defending real estate loan foreclosures.  His creditors’ remedies practice involves debt collection law and bankruptcy issues. His federal banking practice includes bank lending and operations, as well as the Truth In Lending Act and Fair Credit Reporting Act.  He led the development of a federal savings bank’s commercial and real estate loan documents.  His real estate litigation practice has involved purchase agreements, broker disputes, defense of city enforcement actions against owners and lenders, and obtaining rents receivers.  His commercial practice has included enforcement of aircraft distributor agreements, protection of trade secrets and intellectual property, and unfair competition.  He has represented employers with advice and defense.  He has been general counsel to a national  watercraft organization, for which he prepared sponsorship and commercial agreements, and successfully defended a CEQA action for it related to racing activities in San Diego Harbor.

            Fred obtained his law degree in 1986 from Hastings College of the Law, University of California, with Moot Court honors.  In 1981 he graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree from Loma Linda University.  During college, Fred interned one quarter in Washington D.C. for Congressman George Brown (Dem. 36th Dist.) and also worked in a lumber yard, as a member of the Teamster’s Union.
